The most effective organizations have boards and staff that work together. Designed for board-staff teams, this practical workshop addresses the complementary roles board members play in their organization's governance and resource development.
The session begins with a close look at board recruitment, structure, operations, and culture, and explores the responsibility to provide financial sustainability.
Training will be led by Jackie Downing, Senior Director of Grantmaking and Nonprofit Support at The Community Foundation.
Topics include:
1. Board Source’s 10 Basic Responsibilities
2. Legal obligations
3. By-laws
4. Board member recruitment
5. On-boarding new board members
6. Running a good board meeting
7. Assessing board and board member performance
8. Board’s relationship with the executive director
9. Staff and board succession planning
10. Fundraising is everyone’s job
To maximize the benefit of this session, each organization must have at least one staff member and at least two Board members in attendance (all volunteer organizations should come with a team of three or four). Additional Board and staff participants are strongly encouraged to attend.
Organization Cost: $25
